The photographs below show some of our dry stone walling examples.

The completed Homestead Cabin includes a weak mix of lime mortar.  This was placed with the inner fillings or heartings and used as a barrier to prevent ingress of  animals to attack insulation. The same mix was also used for part anchorage on the inner surface of the window pillars and for support to the chimney stack flue.

A recent outing to the Brecon Beacons Jan/Feb 2014  was a challenge and a monumental achievement to complete 30m in four weeks. It rained every day along with gale force horizontal snow and sleet !  Tons of material had to be dug out of the ground by hand, where it had fallen 40yrs ago - according to the farmer. It was also an achievement for a student from Kingston Uni. They did exceptionaly well, all things considered Mon - Fri and did not give in !

The wall repair was done within 3m of Beacons Way. Have a look at it the next time your out hiking in that region on the mountain between Crickhowell and Llangynidr, just above Cwmdu. The views can be spectacular they can also be none-existant !
